Olivia Rodrigo - Drivers Lisence (My Review)

July 20, 2021

As Drivers License is going down on Billboard Hot 100, my happiness is going up. Honestly, if you listen to it about 100 times, you can see that the song is so lyrically horrible, even a kindergartener could’ve probably written that song for Olivia Rodrigo but not get the clout needed for writing a song that terrible. “I got my driver's license last week Just like we always talked about 'Cause you were so excited for me To finally drive up to your house But today I drove through the suburbs Crying 'cause you weren't around” like what is this and why did it skyrocket in popularity? If I could pick any song to be the most overrated song of 2021, I would for sure pick this one. The beat in this song is awful too. It’s literally just the same note on the piano being slapped every half a second. As I’m typing this out, Olivia’s debut album SOUR, which Drivers License is a part of, is still at #1 on the Billboard 200 and it has been on the chart for no more than 2 months. The song itself is currently #42 on the Hot 100 and has been on the chart for 27 weeks. I just hated it so much in February through April in English class these three girls would blast Drivers License at the end of class and sing along from the top of their lungs and their voices were Satanically horrible, as on the other hand, I would blast something like Brand of Sacrifice or Cannibal Corpse and get my phone taken away for the day. Anyway, the slow fall of Drivers License and the rise of "Deja Vu" (#10) and "Good 4 U" (#2) are barely keeping SOUR at the top of the 200. The two latter songs are only big because they came out after Drivers License and people are just now getting into them. Deja Vu is basically Drivers License with different lyrics and Good 4 U is failed Disney Rock. Back to the main song we’re talking about, the first “And I know we weren't perfect but I've never felt this way for no one”, Olivia either fails at using a falsetto correctly, OR wants to do it, executes it, then holds it back like she’s really scared. Honestly if you want to use a falsetto, just do it and don’t be a wimp about it. It’s that simple. And then the second “And I know we weren't perfect but I've never felt this way for no one”, Olivia wails that shit like a little 6-year-old who probably just came second in a Fortnite Battle Royale. And then comes the bridge and then the chorus for the third time, and this time Olivia decides to pull a Billie Eilish and whisper it out or something. But after that it’s over, thank God. If the stuff said in the song actually happened, and I mean ALL of it, Olivia would have had her car crashed about 50 times. I would honestly rather listen to Justin Bieber than whatever this vomit-filled slime is. Anyway, that’s all I have to say about this song. Have a great day.
